What is play therapy?

Play therapy is a form of counselling or psychotherapy that uses play to communicate with and help children. This may be to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. The aim of play therapy is to help them towards better social integration, growth and development, emotional modulation, and/or trauma resolution.

Play is how children reconstruct their world in order to understand and master it.

“When young children play, they re-create the world anew. They take what is and combine it with what is possible to fashion new events” (T. Armstrong, The Human Odyssey: Navigating the twelve stages of life).
